Emergency Handling Test

For towing a vehicle, it’s best to use a metal bar rather than a rope or conveyor chain, as it provides better control and safety for both vehicles. A strong metal bar is a safer and more secure method for towing, especially on major roads.

If your engine suddenly cuts off and doesn’t start, one of the first things to check is the battery terminals. Ensure that the terminals are clean and tightly connected. Loose or corroded battery connections can prevent the engine from starting. If the battery seems fine, you can proceed to check other components like the spark plugs, fan belt, or radiator, but start with the battery to rule out a simple connection issue.

In an emergency on a wet road, keep both hands on the steering wheel and apply the brakes gradually to avoid skidding and maintain control of the vehicle. Sudden braking or accelerating can cause you to lose traction.

When your vehicle is involved in an accident, the first step is to mark the position of your vehicle (for evidence purposes) and move it off the road if it's safe to do so. This helps prevent further accidents and keeps traffic flowing. After ensuring safety, you should call the police and follow legal requirements. It's important not to attempt to find the cause of the accident immediately, as this can interfere with the investigation.

If your tyre blows out, slow down gradually and steer carefully to the shoulder of the road, where you can safely stop and replace the tyre. Stopping in the middle of the road or in a driving lane is extremely dangerous and can cause accidents.

If your tyre blows out or you have a tyre burst while the vehicle is in motion, firmly grip the steering wheel and steer straight. Avoid slamming on the brakes, as this can cause you to lose control. Gradually slow down and bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Once stopped, you can assess the situation and take appropriate action.

Hazard warning lights should be used when you are stopped in an emergency to alert other drivers of a potential danger. They help warn others to proceed with caution.

Hazard lights are not used to thank other drivers, When parking briefly, or when overtaking. Their purpose is specifically to signal an emergency or a hazard on the road.

If your vehicle breaks down on a two-way road at night, stop on the right side, facing the same direction as traffic. This ensures you're visible to other drivers and your red reflectors are visible to the rear. Activate your hazard lights and place reflective triangles or markers to alert others.

To warn following traffic that the traffic ahead is slowing down sharply, you should briefly use the hazard warning lights. This is a clear signal to other drivers that they should slow down and be cautious.

If your vehicle breaks down in traffic or on the highway, you should get your vehicle off the road and place an Advance Warning Triangle at 46 metres to the front and rear. This will help alert other drivers to the breakdown, ensuring safer conditions for everyone on the road.

When one rear tyre is stuck in sand or mud, steering in the direction of the stuck tyre can help the vehicle gain traction and move out of the rut. This maneuver allows the tyre to move out of the obstruction and get the vehicle back on track more effectively.

When a front tire bursts, it can cause a sudden loss of control, but you should stay calm and control the vehicle to roll to a stop. Gradually ease off the accelerator, hold the steering wheel firmly but lightly, and avoid slamming on the brakes. Applying the brakes too suddenly can cause the vehicle to swerve. You should gently steer and allow the car to slow down gradually until you can safely pull over to the side of the road.

If you are stuck on a level crossing and unable to restart your engine, your immediate priority is to clear the crossing as quickly as possible to avoid a collision with an oncoming train. If it is safe to do so, push the vehicle off the tracks. If you cannot move it, exit the vehicle and move to a safe location before seeking help.

A – Airway: Check if the person's airway is clear and not blocked.
B – Breathing: Ensure the person is breathing properly.
C – Circulation: Check for a pulse and signs of blood circulation.

These steps help assess the victim's condition and provide proper first aid before professional medical help arrives.

Even if no train is in sight at a level crossing, it is important to drive with care. Always approach level crossings cautiously because trains can appear unexpectedly, and there might be other factors such as signals or barriers that need attention.

When your vehicle breaks down on a two-way road, you should place the warning triangle at least 45 metres behind your vehicle. This distance helps warn oncoming traffic about the obstruction and gives them enough time to react safely.
